Little
is known of Donald Bain at this time. He was a WAG (Wireless Operator/Air
Gunner) when he and his crew were lost after their Hudson failed
to return. This was his first operational sortie. view

According to the Australian National Archives, RAAF
personnel records, he was born on 21st June 1914 in Ayr Queensland
and although noted as enlisted in Brisbane, he actually enlisted
in Rockhampton at a mobile recruiting station, his paper work obviously
ending up at the Brisbane recruitment office. He then completed
his Initial Training in New South Wales before being posted to Canada
for advanced training.
He arrived to 59 Squadron on the 18th of Feb. 1942
where he undertook further pre-op training until the 2nd of March.
