Little is known of Sgt Harvey at this time. He is noted as a WAG with P/O Charlton & crew in March 1942. He is later noted as a P/O during the time that the Squadron were flying the Liberator.

In late 1942, P/O Harvey undertook the duties of Gunnery Leader.

According to the Australian National Archives, RAAF personnel records, he was born on 9th March 1921 in Woodville South Australia and enlisted in Melbourne.
