If you have any information about Sgt Hine, please contact me, thank you.

Update Dec. 2012: I have recently been contacted by Peter Moore, who is a relative of Jack's. He knidly submitted the following. Thank you Peter.

"I came across your website when researching my family history on behalf of my mother. She never had any brothers or sisters herself and because of this was very close to one of her cousins, who was Jack Hine. He was a sergeant in 59 Squadron and specifically was a gunner in a Bristol Blenheim. We were aware that he and the crew were lost in raid on shipping in June 1941 and unfortunately we have had no indications that his body was ever recovered, either at the time or subsequently. The information on your site seems to confirm that.

For your information Jack was an only child himself and was born in 1917 in Blackpool, Lancashire where he lived with his mother up until his loss. I also note that the 59 Squadron was at one stage based in Lincolnshire, where I have lived for the last 25 years. During the war Lincolnshire was known as 'Bomber County' as it had more airfields and bomber squadrons than any other county (because of its strategic east coast location for bombing missions).

Following the death of Jack, his mother received his war medal. Following her death in 1979 this was passed to my mother who still holds the medal.

Many thanks

Pete Moore "

Rest In Peace
