Little is known of F/O Playford at this time. He was an Australian WAG on the Squadron between Nov. 1943 and June 1945.

He was a member of S/Ldr Sissons crew, when they attacked and sunk U-990 in May 1944.

According to the Australian National Archives, RAAF personnel records, he was born on 5th January 1923 in Murwillumbah NSW and enlisted in Sydney.
