As Sgt. he was a member of P/O Ayres crew, attacked by 12 Be109's and crash landed at Thorney island. Roper was awarded a DFM for his actions on this day. view more

Later in his service (not with 59 Sqn) Sgt Roper rose to the rank of F/L before his death on the 16/03/1945. He is buried at Suez War Memorial Cemetery (Eygpt).

At this time the details of his death are unknown, or to which squadron or unit he was serving with.

03/05/1942 - The ORB notes P/O H.D Roper DFM (Squadron Navigation Officer) posted to No.7 OTU.
