Joseph Aikins attended Whittier School in Montana before moving to Toronto and entering UTS. He enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps and was a member of the 59th Squadron at the time of his death. He is buried in Flesquieres Hill British Cemetery in the Somme area of France, along Cyril Rennie Sloan, another UTS boy who became a member of the Royal Flying Corps. Aikins is also commemorated in his parish church, Victoria-Royce Presbyterian, which was turned into a series of lofts in 2006. source
