Base: North Coates Took off along with seven other aircraft of the squadron to attack a convoy off Schiermonnikoog and was shot down while running in. Sgt Schafer, a Rhodesian, is buried in Sage War Cemetery, F/Sgt Imeson, a Canadian from Leamington, Ontario, in Becklingen War Cemetery, Sgt Hann in Kiel War Cemetery, while Sgt Wilkinson is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. This was the crew's first operational sortie.

During WWII, the RAF used three-letter codes to identify their aircraft from a distance. Two large letters were painted before the roundel, which signified the squadron to which the aircraft belonged, and another letter was painted after the roundel which indicated the individual aircraft.
