Base: St. Eval Airborne ST. EVAL. No S.E. 12x250 Torpex D.C's. At 0957, flying at 1,500 feet, sighted U-boat wake three miles on starboard beam. Attack made at 1000hrs from 40ft with 6 D.C's. Rear gunner saw three large explosions of D.C's straddling estimated track about 30 feet ahead of swirl. Left area at 1010hrs. Returned at 1135hrs but nothing seen. Weather good. During WWII, the RAF used three-letter codes to identify their aircraft from a distance. Two large letters were painted before the roundel, which signified the squadron to which the aircraft belonged, and another letter was painted after the roundel which indicated the individual aircraft.
